The building is a substantial Grade II* Listed property within the local Conservation Area and has been noted as having interiors that are among the most adventurous in Europe for their date. Comparing well with the Kartner Bar in Vienna (Loos: 1907), or the Palais Stoclet in Brussells (Eoffmann: 1905) and was listed on account of works to the property undertaken by the Manchester architects Edgar Wood and J Henry Sellers in 1909.
